When you are working on a yacht, you save money. Why? It is because you don’t have to pay rent and buy food unless you get lost in the endless party lifestyle, then you will not save anything.

How Much Can You Make as a Yacht Crew?

 

If you are an amateur yacht, you can earn around $2000-3000 a month as deckhands while an experienced crew salary can range up to $3500-$6000 a month.

 

On charter trips, guests usually tip 5% – 15% of the weekly charter fee and divided among the crew members. This is an additional income on top of the monthly salary.

 

What are the Top Yacht Crew Positions?

 

Chef

The chef aboard a yacht is a culinary expert who is in charge of all guest and crew meals, provisioning and comprehensive management of the kitchen. Most yachts chefs are well paid, but you should be a professional.

 

Deckhand

Duties included for deckhand are the maintenance of decks, hull, and superstructure or mooring and cargo handling. If you work on a sailboat, you have to learn about all the rigging and sails.

 

Stewardess

A yacht stewardess is in charge of the yacht interior maintenance and implementing the highest standard оf hоѕрitаlitу.  Also, ѕеrviсе for guests and owner.  Their job covers working with the deck crew to prepare the guests’ daily outings and pack their bags as well.

 

Engineer 

A yacht engineer is in charge of the maintenance and repair of engines and electrical components. It needs an engineering degree.

 

First Mate 

A first mate position is the next in charge of the captain, mainly manage the crew and sail when the captain is not available.

 

Bosun 

A bosun, also known as the Leading Hand or Senior Deckhand, should be an experienced Deckhand who can take on additional responsibilities.

 

Captain 

A captain in the yacht is the one who sails it, but it requires a license and lots of sailing experience. Who is in charge of hiring crew members. 

Skipper

is an informal name for the captain, a way to address the person who’s at the helm of a boat or in command of a Navy ship. The word skipper comes from the Dutch Schipper, from schip, or “ship.” Sometimes this word is also used for the captain of a team or the pilot of an airplane.

 

A Regular Working Day On A Yacht

 

On Charter

When the yacht owners are on-board, or other people have rented it out your boat for a holiday, you are “on charter.” If you are on charter your primary responsibility includes you cannot leave the boat, do your duties like room service, the bellman, the front desk, attendants, their laundress, sometimes their masseuse, taxi driver, waiter, chef, etc. If the guests are off the boat, it is time to clean the yacht and change the bedding, in short preparing the yacht before they return

Usually, the yacht’s chef starts cooking early in the morning preparing the breakfast buffet for the guests.

 

Between Charters

Some yachts are available for rent, and others do not. If you want to earn more money, work on a boat that charters but if you want some relaxation and take a regular salary, then take a yacht that doesn’t offer charters.
